Client

Dunell’s is a family run business, of which has been under it’s current Managing Director for almost 20 years.

The clients dream for a long time, was to remove the wall the divided the main shop with the older part of the building that sits roadside on Beaumont, in order to open the entire shop up to have an open retail space, as well as refurbish the rest of the retail area.

Brief

The brief from the client was to refurbish the main retail area whilst transforming the rear of the existing shop into a versatile space that could be used for retail during the day and easily change into a tasting area at night in order to hold various events and classes for their customers, as well as form a unique private Masterclass Room to hold their more intimate events.

The scope of works grew exponentially as the project went on and in the end the building was taken right back to it’s shell, including removing the existing shop front and the team then started right from scratch.

Solution

Various elements of the works included structural works to remove internal columns to create the open floor space to the rear of the property, a complete new shop front, refurbishing the internal brickwork and granite to create the lovely exposed finishes you now see, bespoke joinery items such as upholstered doors, feature ceilings, and versatile display tables that can be used for retail during the day and set up for tasting events in the evening.

The project itself was far from simple due to the nature of working in old building, whilst ensuring the shop remained trading throughout the project. However as you can see from the finished result, Dunell’s now have a very special space that EDP are proud to have been involved with and we hope it helps brings Neil, Jane and their team much success in the future.
